As you all know (right?), there’s a National Hockey League strike going on right now. I was really, really bored for a time today, so I read a brief news article about it. (I don’t think I could have stayed awake through a thorough article about it.)
The strike is all about the usual stuff – money, benefits, and money. Neither side is willing to compromise significantly, so the sport suffers as do its fans. Thankfully, I’m not one of them.
But it got me thinking about a board game idea.
Could you create a board game where each player is the commissioner of a major league sport – hockey, football, baseball, basketball, futbol, curling – whose goal it is to run that sport into the ground, taking longer than other commissioners to do so, gaining more money along the way, and coming out smelling the rosiest and looking the most guilt-free in order to win?
Personally, I don’t have the desire to design such a game, but it might be a fun board game to play.
So there you have the basic outline. Who’s up to the task of designing an awesome game around it?
If you see one out there in the next year or so, let me know. And then realize you heard it here first.
